A $10 book on AMAZON PRIME led me to a LOST GHOST TOWN | Overlanding Nevada
We're all probably guilty from time to time of mindlessly shopping on Amazon. One morning I was enjoying a cup of coffee to myself one morning as I stumbled across a book of old Nevada Ghost Towns. The stories seemed intriguing and I couldn't wait for it to be delivered.
A week later it arrived in the mail, and as soon as I opened the first pages I found myself destined for the Nevada Desert in search of Gold. Follow along as I brief one of these Ghost Towns back to life!

Is the Mr. Heater Buddy Safe for Winter Camping in a Tent? Carbon Monoxide/Oxygen Test
Просмотров 177 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Is the Mr. Heater Buddy safe for me to use in my rooftop tent for winter snow camping? It's time to find out. After spending over 100 nights in my iKamper Skycamp in the winter, I finally decided to test out the safety of the Mr. Heater Buddy that I've relied on for so many nights of snow camping. In this video, I conduct a 12 hour "stress test" to see how high I can get Carbon Monoxide (CO) le...

Part Two: ruclips.net/video/c_K3YqnZ-ps/видео.html During this Overland trip, Burning Man was in full force as 100,000 people flocked to the Nevada Playa. That said: you won't find me there. I was 100 miles east in search of abandoned ghost towns and gold mines as relics of the Comstock Lode era in the Nevada desert. This Overland expedition ended up being way more involved than I ever thought,...

What I intended on filming at Overland Expo PNW and what i came out with were two very different things this year. I had intended on walking around with my camera and shooting your standard "interview people talking about cool gear" Expo video, but that just didn't happen. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that kind of content; in fact, I've been watching a few of those myself to s...
iKamper Skycamp 2.0 to 3.0 Conversion Kit | CHEAP Rooftop Tent UPGRADE

Shortly after releasing the new iKamper Skycamp 3.0, iKamper released a "Conversion Kit" allowing owners of the 2.0 to reap some of the benefits of the 3.0 by swapping out their tent canvas and rain fly. In this video, you'll watch me remove my Skycamp 2.0 canvas/rain fly, and install the Skycamp 3.0 Conversion Kit from the comfort of the Eastern Sierra and Mount Whitney. After the install, we'...
This Overland Awning Has It All: Ostrich Junior 270 by Big Country 4x4

@Venture2Roam and I spent an entire year stress-testing this awning by Big Country 4x4. It's totally free-standing, providing 75 square feet of shade, and sets up in only 30 seconds! I've used this awning in an all-out snowstorm, rainshowers, and insane winds; and it's held up against all of it. This video is a collaboration with Will at Venture2Roam, and we cover everything from the initial un...

Christmas Rooftop Tent Camping in a SNOWSTORM

As my last opportunity for camping before Christmas, I headed out on a one night trip to the Tahoe National Forest where 3-4 feet of snow was forecasted. The actual bomb range itself is B-17. Thats north of hwy 50 and all fenced in. They still use the areas for training just not bombing. Designated areas only for bombing. I would also suggest not taking any parts being they are still gov property....just sayn.
Yeah heard of salt and pepper. Maybe a little garlic. Btw cooked tortillas are delicious. Cool background
Thank you for protecting are country I think those long big bolts are from a stamp mill
In the 70s and 80s I spent lots of time wandering Nevada I had topographical maps of the entire State and some of Utah and some of Idaho I still want to wonder in the desert because of age and poor health I cannot go for as long as I like I would have dec,jan and feb off from my work and usually spend 2or 3 weeks exploring snowed in a few times did most of my exploring in the 70s 80s and 90s miss dearly cane only do short trips no now it was nothing that people used to do back then there were very few people out wandering the desert I would be out for 2 weeks at a time never see another person unless I would go into town purposely to get gas or food there was no GPS back then and I had topographical maps I went to the US Geological Survey in Menlo Park California and bought all their maps for Nevada most Idaho's and Eastern Oregon along with a few for Utah but I spent 90% of my time in Nevada I have GPS now but I prefer using topographical maps I'm envious of your travels if not a little bit jealous thank you for making these videos appreciated they bring back some good memories
I just got a roofnest condor and the mattress is terrible. On their website they suggest that "if you are the princess in the pea type..." you might need an upgrade. It's more like IF YOU HAVE BONES! Now I'm looking at having to spend $400 for a mattress.
Yeah that's unfortunately about par for the course with most RTTs I have found
Busy flying missions not much content?

Hi how long does the mesh last for
Hasn't failed yet!
Hi how long does the fire mesh last for?
Be interesting to see if the presence of a person inside breathing the oxygen would decrease the oxygen level to an unsafe point with/without ventilation. As others have said, every setup is going to have some variance as well. Your findings were interesting none the less!
Yup that's a great point. Maybe I'll do another test this winter
Stay in Oregon, much safer...
Thanks for the tip
So victaulic pipe fittings if I remember correctly was introduced during the war in the 1930’s there slogan was V for victory it’s a quick way to assemble a pipe line and or disassemble so that fittings would have been at a later date The cement with the bolts was for the hoist the cement pillar was a deric to lift the tailings out of the mine
That's great info! Thanks for filling in the gaps
nice jeep, nice guy, good talking and not selling stuff??? A winner for me…
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching 🤙
Yes it's safe I just used one this weekend. With my wife and son, kept us warm.. just keep it away from Blankets and long as there's ventilation you'll sleep comfortably
I used it in a tent*
Isn’t this the same video as the last Nevada mine search?
Combined both episodes 👍
What cube lights do you have and do you recommend? I have a light bar already looking to light up the ditches. Thanks.
Honestly just some Amazon specials. They work great though
Link?
@@timw3411 don't remember to be honest it's been a few years. Just search for 12V LED spot lights
Thanks for sharing this, that was a great way to do an adventure using a historical book. Adventures like that are a great way to see history.
Absolutely! Really enjoyed bringing the book to life
The area around Dixie valley looks awesome, I'll have to add that to my Nevada list of places to check out!
100%!
That was a stamp mill. We are envious. We use to do exactly what your doing. Love it.
Great adventure, love the book concept but all I see are closeups of your face. If you showed scenery as you narrate it would be much more watchable.
Why the rerun?
Combined the two different videos into one long full feature
That's such a cool adventure! Great vid man!
Thanks!
You should put a motorcycle rack on the back of the jeep and carry a mini bike to keep going if you can't get the jeep down the road
That would be epic! Maybe one of those electric bikes
looking forward to watching this!
Dude!!! This video was so awesome! What an adventure! Strong work man!
Thanks Ian!
Great video Kevin! I love books like the one you have showing the history of an area, especially mining history. So amazing the conditions these miners worked under and the small towns that would pop up in the middle of nowhere! I really enjoyed watching this! 👍
Thanks Mike! Really enjoyed making this one

So many people are using propane stoves in thier tents. Buddy heater are the same concept without being able to cook on it. Just vent like you would cooking. Just like at home have a carbon minoxide detctor.
Very cool!! It's quite amazing seeing the town-site picture with all its structures, compared to now.
Agreed! Amazing experience
Is possible to bring a sxs to this area??? Looking for info on camping with a sxs thanks :)
Just found your channel! Nice work! Your jeep is legit. Just moving on from my Gobi Rack and purchased the Maximus 3 plus Rhino Rack Platform for my Ikamper. I didn't like how heavy and chunky the Gobi was, regardless, any issues with fitment of the iKamper on the Rhino Rack? can't seem to find any clear cut answers anywhere else! Thank you!
Sorry for the delay! It actually fits perfectly between the slats. You made a great choice; I love the Maximus system
I got two Qomotops with my new Camp365 last May. I agree, they are quite comfortable. But in my most recent coast-to-coast trip, camping about a dozen times there and back, I noticed toward the end that both were losing inflation during the night. I mouth-inflated them to my comfort level at the beginning of the night, but by the end they were too soft. So they must have a slow leak somewhere. Any thoughts on how to address this?
I think the concrete and stanchions could be the foundation to an old head frame for the mineshaft.
How did it run the whole time with everything closed up? I know for a fact they wont run that long without a lot of fresh air if youre in the tent with it cause it will run out of oxygen and turn off. Im looking for ways to keep it running better but without having to let in too much cold air
All the windows were closed. I'm sure the fabric breathes a bit, but nothing at all was cracked open.
So, is this unit secure? It looks to me that all you have to do to get access to the contents is to remove the top with an Allen wrench? What the use of having the lock,, if you can get into it in less than 5 minutes?
I mean if someone wants to get into it, they could. There's more than 8 screws holding the top on so you'd have to be pretty motivated. Also the fridge is on top of it weighing it down.
Great channel. You upgraded to the 3.0? What happened to the converted ICamper 2.0?
I did! Made a video about the conversion. Great upgrade to the 3.0
Being from Australia water is seriously a life or death situation in the outback . Most overlanders here carry minimum 2 separate water containers (if one gets a leak you have the other to use) I watched the hand pump vid and it was good but as we know it failed , I see the same issue with the usb charged pump , if it fails you’ll be pouring it out . Check out an Aussie guy called Tim Bates , he has a vid on a gravity fed 20 litre container that is bulletproof. Love your vids Rhino , cheers from Australia mate .
Thanks for the input, will do!
excellent video...well done, fast, to the point. I like how you included a humidity sensor. I considered a diesel heater but they are not as portable. One must consider as well that many homes are heated with propane via small units inside rooms. I have had a propane heater in my master bedroom for years.
Appreciate it!
Great video. When you turn off the heater at night do you also close the propane valve on your tank?
Thanks! To be honest I just leave it on (usually out of desire to keep the heat in)
If you add 2 oxygen-sucking, co2 emitting people to the tent?
What do you set the heater on in your tent, ie piece of plywood ? Just bought one, thanks for posting.
I usually set it in a baking sheet or tin
Where did you get the carpet for the tent?
Lowes! 12" carpet squares peel-n-stick
Thanks, this is informative.
I just received my conversion kit not too long ago and due to more nicer weather recently moving in, I can’t wait to install it and get to some camping 🏕️! Awesome review and detailed at that🤙
Appreciate it!
Is there a video on you carpeting your tent?
Hand pump it like a pesant… idk why I found that so funny 😂
Haha
What roof rack do you have?
Rhino Rack with mounting systems from Maximus -3
What type of roof rack do you have
Please be advised that those step up converters are china garbage, please read the specs as they quickly overheat. Your only real option is victron that has fan inside
